February Teachers of the Month

Congratulations to Josh Dickson and Danielle Salts, our February Teachers of the Month!

Name: Josh Dickson

Total Years of Teaching Experience: 3

Years of Teaching at Xavier: 3

Hometown: Deer Lodge, Montana

Why did you choose teaching as a career:
To have a positive educational impact on students from generation to generation.

What do you like most about teaching at Xavier?
I like being challenged with the subjects that I teach. I have found that teaching here is never dull and I enjoy that.

When you are not teaching and working, what are you most likely to be doing?
I like to hunt. More importantly, I enjoy being quiet in the outdoors or spending time with my family and friends in the outdoors. This includes shooting bow and arrow, riding mountain bikes, dirt bikes, and laughing around a campfire at the end of the day. I also love to read mystery/action novels. I don’t go anywhere without my book!

What do you wish your students knew about you?
I think they know nearly everything. Some things should never be revealed!

Is there any other information about yourself that you would like to share?
I am not a big fan of asparagus.

Name: Danielle Salts

Total Years of Teaching Experience: 12

Years of Teaching at Xavier: 3

Hometown: Buhl

Why did you choose teaching as a career?
In high school I found that I could communicate through dance better than I could with words. Before college I traveled with a touring dance company where I learned more about dance as an art form. I decided that I wanted to share my knowledge and teach others about the opportunities that dance offers in so many different parts of life.

What do you like most about teaching at Xavier?
Xavier supports the Fine Arts. We have a special school that allows students to learn dance because they know how it benefits their academics.

When you are not teaching and working what are you most likely doing?
I have three children. Ages 9, 7 and 5. We keep very busy with dance, piano lessons, ninja classes, plays, basketball and homework. I also do a lot of laundry! We love to escape to our cabin in Pine and hide with no WiFi.

What do you wish your students to know about you?
Mainly that I think about them all the time. After each day, when I finally have time to reflect, I think about all of the things that I could have done differently and should do tomorrow. I am excited to come to school each day to continue our creativity.

Is there any other information about yourself that you would like to share?
Thank you to my supportive husband, Billy. He works very hard to provide for our family which gives me the opportunity to have my dream job!
