February Teachers of the Month

Congratulations to Rick McNurlin and Becky Baird, our February Teachers of the Month!

Rick McNurlin

Name:  Rick McNurlin

Total Years of Teaching Experience: 30

Years of Teaching at Xavier: 6

Hometown:  Twin Falls

Why did you choose teaching as a career:
Helping people learn is a passion of mine. I love helping people.

What do you like most about teaching at Xavier?
Xavier is about learning and character and not about athletics. It is so common for a school to revolve around athletics. That is just a small part of what life is, not the main focus. Seeking knowledge and using that knowledge is a lifelong endeavor. Xavier is about accomplishing that.

When you are not teaching and working, what are you most likely to be doing?
Riding my motorcycle. I will be on it as much as I can because I enjoy riding and traveling with my wife on two wheels. I may seem like a motorcycle snob have 3 motorcycles. God has provided all 3 of them to me at very little cost. Nothing is more of a waste than letting a motorcycle just sit. They are made to ride. So I will do my part in helping them accomplish their purpose in life.

What do you wish your students knew about you?
I have accepted a great challenge in my life. This summer I plan on running a Ragnar. I am training for a trail run at Lake Tahoe. A Ragnar is a relay race with in this case, 8 runners, each running 3 separate legs ranging from 3.5 to 8 miles each. 8 of us “seniors” will do the challenge. For a fat old man, it will be a challenge. 2 years ago Xavier had 2 teams with 12 persons on each team that I was on. I finished that one alive and well, and am ready to go again. It is time to stretch out my legs and do it again.

Is there any other information about yourself that you would like to share?
Science is fun. It is life. It is what makes us function. Whether we like it or not, the laws of physics run or lives and cannot be broken.
